Just a few days ago many of us were together in Grand Rapids, Michigan for the SPG International Convention. I had the time of my life. There was so much preparation by the Delta Province team, the International Council, and the hotel and city prior to our arrival – and all aspects of the convention experience were wonderful. For me I spent much more time preparing than the full week took to carry out.
Serving as the International President of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority has been a highlight of my life. Enjoying the opportunity to serve and give to an organization that has provided me so much joy and love was all I had hoped for and more. It was a great opportunity to work closely with Deb, Jill, Renee, Lindy, Linda, Wendie, and Mary Ann.
As we visited together throughout the year I made every effort to listen, respond, lead, offer support, and sometimes I was a little bossy – all for the purpose of making us just a little stronger and a little more nimble in our business practices. All-in-all it was pretty good. I wasn’t perfect and none of you expected me to be – another reason to know how much our Sisterhood means – you are accepted for who you are and the gifts you bring.
As I begin my final year on the International Council I’ve set some goals for myself: 1) support the new International Council (not interfere just help when needed), 2) support the Chapter and Province Officers when called upon to do so, 3) recruit new members and talk with at least three different groups (college sorority, Junior League, women of the Rotary – for example) about SPG.
Our new President has given me a few assignments: Chair of the Nominating Committee and Chair of the Bylaws Committee. Both of these opportunities will assist me in achieving my personal goals. Thank you, Deb, for your confidence in me.
Congratulations to Deb, Robin, Renee, Linda, Sandy, and Debbie on your election as the 2017-2018 International Council. I know that you will do all in your power to lead the organization and support our Sisters across the US and Canada! The entire membership stands ready to encourage and support you! Thank you for agreeing to lead!
The 2017 International Convention was GRAND, and it was RAPID. Our time in Grand Rapids will always hold a special place in my heart! Together we are one in Friendship, Service, and Community – Sigma Phi Gamma!
